CHARACTER CALCULATION
The translation valuation system is usually based
on the keystrokes found in the source text. With
text files the verification is carried out through
an agreed character counter.
A standard page includes 1500 characters (spaces,
footnotes, etc. included). A standard page counts
210 words on average.
The cost of a page translation can vary according
to the level of stylistic or lexical difficulty
due to the technical, legal, commercial, scientific
or economic content of the text. The cost of a page
usually vary from 20€ to 30€, VAT excluded.
Sometimes personalized estimates are requested.
Specific researches are needed (i.e. the reading
of particular books in the language combination
requested), in order to assure the maximum quality
of technical translations).
Conditions:
With reference to the regulations of the field and
to the rules indicated by the Associazione Italiana
Interpreti e Traduttori it is underlined that:
• The estimate is based on a character calculation
(one page minimum);
• A text translation is valued in terms of
the characters in the source text. A page usually
includes 25 lines of 55 spaces;
• A legal page includes 25 lines of 50 spaces;
• The estimates are VAT excluded;
• The minimum estimate is of one page;
• A written commission to do translations
is requested. The letter must include the amount
calculated in the estimate and terms of payment
and delivery;
• The translator needs to read the text to
translate in advance;
• The text which is sent to the translator
must be legible and include tables, graphs and pictures
that are present in the text;
• Delivery is paid by the customer;
• Terms of delivery are to be respected when
they are specified in the contract. They only concern
the texts to be translated;

in case of problems concerning post offices or owing
to circumstances beyond the translator's control.
In this case the translator will not be bound to
pay any indemnity;

nature of the documents to translate;
• On demand of the customer (who pays this
service), the translator can assure the documents
during their delivery;
• According to the Directive 2000/35/EC, payment
is made after receiving the translator’s invoice
and, however, has to be effected within 30 days
from the receiving of the translated texts. If this
term is not respected it is applied the article
3.1. of the above mentioned Directive;
• In case of numerous pages to translate,
a payment on account is requested;
• It is possible to complain within 30 days
from the date of receiving of the translation.

drawn between the translator and the customer and
related to its content, to mistakes, payment, withdrawal,

the Court of the town where the translator has his/her
residence.
